Hemorrhagic Transformation after Acute Ischemic Stroke:Prevalence, Predictive Factors, and Mechanisms
Lee Ju-Hun

Abstract
Hemorrhagic transformation (HTr) is a complication of acute ischemic stroke which frequently occur as part of the natural evolution of ischemia/reperfusion. Although patients with HTr are often asymptomatic, symptomatic HTr is a cause of early neurologic deterioration and contributes to poor long-term outcome. Therefore, prediction of symptomatic HTr has been an important clinical issue. Here, we reviewed the prevalence of HTr, the predictors for HTr, and its pathophysiological mechanisms related to blood brain barrier.
